Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which plan to take.  -Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

I can’t tell you how many times I have read this scripture over the course of my life as a Christian.  I am such a perfectionist, aka, control freak, aka, person who thinks if they don’t do something themselves it will not get done, or if it does get done, it will not be done “right.”  If you are not a perfectionist, you don’t quite understand this. Here is the best way to explain it using this Bible verse in Proverbs as a reference: I think I’m trusting God, but really…I’m only trusting him with the things that I feel like I can control.  Basically I only want to trust him with things that fit into my plans.. so if he doesn’t come thru, my plan “B” can be put into action immediately!

THAT IS NOT TRUST! That is not seeking God in all that I do!  That is putting limits on what God wants to do! It’s me putting limits on what God wants me to do! No matter how many times I have quoted this verse, I didn’t fully understand it until recently.  Trust is completely letting go of something.  Its making a request of God and not thinking about it as if he has not done it.  It’s realizing that even if I can’t see it, God is working on it.  It means that if I have no indication except internal peace that that thing that really needs to happen will happen, even if I don’t know how.

One way I have learned to fully trust in God has been through seeking Him.  Seeking has caused me to fall in love with God who has been waiting for me to find Him.  It has been me going to Him and talking to Him about the details of my life.  It’s me telling Him my intimate thoughts and desires.  It’s me submitting the things closest to my heart to Him and asking His thoughts on the matter.  It’s spending time with Him and growing in my love for Him, while receiving His love for me.  Seeking God is worshipping, praying and reading His Words.  It is stepping out of your comfort zone, exercising your faith and experiencing new things.  Seeking God is an adventure and learning how to take the risks you have only dreaming about!

Whatever season of life you find yourself in, I hope that you feel emboldened to step out and to enter into everything that God has for you.  I pray that you will begin to put aside your former thoughts about God and go after Him like never before!  When you seek Him, you will find Him and He will show you His plans for you and how to execute them!
